1929 Phillips 66 Station
This refurbished gas station is one of the oldest in Texas, located on the original Route 66.
A sign on the side of this restored gas station claims that this location, which opened in 1929, was the first Phillips 66 station in the state of Texas. (Though another Phillips 66 gas station in Turkey, Texas, is slightly older, having opened in 1928.)
According to Roadside America, the Phillips 66 station in McLean operated for more than 50 years before it closed down. In 1992, the building and gas pumps were partially restored by a local Route 66 preservation group, which claimed that it was the first old gas station restored along the old Route 66. The restored station includes the structure (though the inside is not restored), three Phillips 66 gas pumps (obviously non-functioning), and a tow truck (also, non-functioning).
Know Before You Go
It is worth a five minute detour off I-40 and a five minute walk around. There is plenty of street parking.
