Arboretum Mustila

Established over 120 years ago, the Mustila Arboretum is the oldest and, at 120 hectares, most extensive botanical garden in Finland. It is famous for its rhododendrons and azaleas, both of which burst into bloom each June.

But in this arboretum, there’s much more to see than trees and plants. Next to the café situated in an old granary stands a chained wooden dinosaur. Venture down the path behind it and you’ll find all sorts of wooden sculptures of trolls, fantastic beasts, and more. Many of these rough-hewn creatures were carved with chainsaws by amateur artists such as August Eskelinen. 

After admiring the sculptures, wander through the arboretum on the red, yellow, and blue-marked paths. Informative signs showcase facts about the various plant species, while benches invite visitors to take a break. A map is available free of charge in the café.
