Monument to the Unknown Child

Cycling around the Veluwe visitors are treated to a collection of stones from around the world.

Seen from the highway, this rock collection looks like a rogue and random Stonehenge standing in the beautiful Veluwe landscape, with its rolling heathlands with pines and birches.

But upon closer inspection, visitors will realize that this is a monument known as the Monument for the Unkown Child. It’s designed to be a growing monument, as people are encouraged to add stones from all over the world.

There are big boulders and stones on poles, and there are sort of coves, decorated with smaller stones, where travelers can sit down and soak in the surroundings. The monument was initiated by Dutch artist Herman van Veen.
