Tucked in northwest Tasmania’s “Valley of Views,” a 20-kilometer driving trail delivers big on scenery and whimsy. Nearly 80 novelty letterboxes crafted from recycled materials dot the section along C132, running from Gentle Annie Hill to the historic gold rush town of Moina.

Although the stunning terrain is a clear draw, the letterbox trail has created its own allure, with two life-size letterboxes at either end, both as a nod to Doctor Who. This was all thanks to the locals who have an eye for the quirky, constructing inventive mailbox contraptions including a skeleton riding a bike, a motorcycle, a windmill, a kangaroo, or even just a helmet. They’re all made from repurposed materials, which include metal scraps, tires, buckets, and even an entire lawnmower.

With plenty of pull-offs along this route, it’s easy to stop and admire the crafty and fun creations. Nearby, travelers can hit up local wineries and distilleries, or enjoy outdoor recreation opportunities at Lake Barrington, Silver Falls, or Mount Roland.
