Wood Library and Museum of Anesthesiology
Medical museum focused on antique anesthesiology equipment.
This entry is a stub
The world’s premiere collection of beautiful, old anesthesiology equipment. Particularly delightful is the Smee Portable Ether Inhaler–so you can walk and float at the same time. The museum also features a display of chloroform bottles, laryngoscopes (used to view into the throat) and an extensive collection of anesthesia masks. If you would like to visit, it is advised that you call ahead to make sure someone is available to give you a tour.
Update: Unfortunately this location has closed. The American Society of Anesthesiologists has moved to Schaumburg and taken the Wood Museum with it. The emphasis is on the historical library archives. Visitors to the American Society of Anesthesiologists can see antique equipment displays that are built into the corporate common areas.
