Tuinplaas - Tiny Town
A miniature park, fairy garden, milkshake bar, museum, and micronation in one.
Tuinplaas - Tiny Town in Albertinia, South Africa, is a bizarre conglomerate of children’s attractions, a museum, political satire, and a restaurant. Located just off the N2, this roadside attraction is home to a replica of a town made entirely of ceramics and many other oddities.
The most bizarre part of the park are their ostrich dolls, which feature human faces. These dolls are part of the “independent ostrich republic,” which is a satirical play on the South African government.
The people are represented by ostriches as these birds are renowned for being very dumb, and thus are seen as a good way to mock those in power. One of the dioramas has the ostriches sit on a jet ski and refers to them as the bush navy. They admit to having no idea of how to do their jobs, but don’t mind as the jobs pay well.
Know Before You Go
The park costs 20 rand to enter and it's certainly worth it.
