Although you might disagree with me, I never was someone who sought out adventure as a kid. I was quite content with my pizza, books, and air conditioning. But as I’ve aged, I’ve realized what an amazing gift God has given us: to enjoy his creation.
Since then, I’ve been learning to break from my habits, to “carpe dieum”, to get a little dirty, and to discover all the amazing things that are out there. I am learning that I can choose to go explore places rather than just watch them on Netflix. That there is so much available right outside my own backdoor. And, in this day and age, even traveling to the end of the Earth is very possible.
But I’ve also learned that I’m connected to other people: the things which God holds so dear. That just as much as he might want me to enjoy creation, he also wants me to serve my wife, love my enemies, visit the sick and imprisioned, and remember the orphans and widows.
I don’t have to choose between the loving people and exploring. However, it can take a good bit of work. I don’t have it all right and I’m still learning, so I hope you are willing to come along and learn with me.
